Ministry Statement
Small Group Ministries exists to involve the people of Rock Creek Church and encourage the practice of the Christian life in community.
What makes a small group?

At Rock Creek Church we believe that loving relationships should permeate every aspect of our lives. The whole concept of biblical community fosters an attitude of interdependence in the Church. To put it simply, we need each other.

The focus of the small groups at Rock Creek is involvement. Our primary strategy is not to offer another Bible study but rather to encourage the practice of the Christian life in community. The primary practices are laid out in a covenant that involves a commitment to the following eight functions of biblical community:

Dedicated Service

As members of the body of Christ, we will commit to support the greater body of Christ at our local church through involvement in ministries and service opportunities such as children, youth, worship, hospitality, ushers and greeters.

International Missions

As an expression of our desire to share Christ with the world, the biblical community will support at least one international missions project through increased awareness, commitment to prayer, financial contributions and hands-on involvement.

Spiritual Formation

As members of a biblical community, we will annually assess our own development in Christ, using the Christian Life Profile. We will then confess our areas of struggles to one another and set personal goals for our growth in Christ in the year to come. Through the year we will share our progress and encourage one another monthly in our pursuit of Christlikeness.

Care

The foundation of biblical community will be our commitment to care for one another. This will be manifested in practical help for those in difficult and crisis situations -- hospital or home visits, meal preparation, referral to church and community resources, and the like.

Intentional Reproduction

Each biblical community is open to welcoming new members and will have at least one 'apprentice leader' who is preparing to launch a new group as the Lord adds to their number. We will seek to reproduce another group at least once a year.

Prayer

The power of biblical community will be our commitment to hold one another up in prayer. We will seek to practice qualitative prayer by seeking God's will to be done and practice quantitative prayer by spending time in prayer during every group meeting. We will commit every function of our group being characterized by reliance upon prayer in its conception, planning and execution.

Loving The Unchurched

Each household within the biblical community will commit to pray for at least one household within their neighborhood who need to embrace the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will hold one another accountable to reach out to these families. We desire to see at least once household come to faith in Christ each year.

Extending Compassion

In response to the social needs of our community, each biblical community will commit to participating as families in at least four on-site compassion projects throughout the year. Monthly, the biblical community will select, prepare for, or celebrate their involvement in their compassion project.
